PATCH 8P : SHARKFEST
您好, 巨龍!
Salutations, Dragons!
Apologies for the bare-bones patch notes. Today's update involved a lot of last-minute QA, and we had to prioritize. Basic stats for most event rewards are included, and we will add a more detailed writeup on how the event functions within the next day or so.
Sharkfest
Sharkfest is a four-week celebration, honouring the ocean's deadliest predator and straight-to-video cinema's biggest cash cow.
Sharkfest consists of two parts. Your first task is an event-exclusive quest line, which starts with Maegumrae, a hapless lifeguard who's trying to enjoy his vacation on the sandy shores of Liaodong. He'll assign you a short quest, which will reward you with the permanent Shark Slayer epithet. More steps, and more rewards, are planned for this quest as the event progresses, so keep an eye on our news page.
This is not the time or the place to perform some kind of a half-assed autopsy on a fish.
You can also check in with Seo Hwarang every day in Hefei to receive your choice of four Sharkfest Certifications. Each certification lets you access one of four short quests, each of which rewards a numbered Sharkfest Participation Award. You'll need at least one of each award for Create attempts by Seo Hwarang and Festival Student Bag Hwar, which is how you'll obtain the best event rewards.
You can repeat the Certification quests each time you obtain a new certificate. The quests are:
The Waterboy: Uncover the secret to keeping cool - starting in Hangzhou, and taking you far and wide, in search of the coolest, most refreshing water in the Land. You night decide that the water in Hangzhou is cool enough, in which case you can claim your reward and end the quest. But if you're willing to do some legwork, you can upgrade to your choice of hydrating buff.
Sunbathing: Check with Maegumrae in Liaodong again, who will allow you access to the Lying Down technique. Possibly the easiest quest ever. NOTE: To obtain this certificate, answer Seo Hwarang's initial question with "I've taken care of the sharks already."
Lifeguard Qualification/Duty: Both qualifying to take the lifeguard test, and your regular duty, involve the same steps - starting from Maegumrae in Liaodong, perform your patrol by running from one Shark Warning Sign to the next, as they appear on your minimap.
Cleanup: find the River Hermit near Kunlun's ferry, who beseeches you to help purify the area by slaying one of the for monsters (HINT: the latter two are orders of magnitude easier than hunting the Black Witch Goku or Nine-Tailed Fox. Alternatively, you can just donate a sum of cash, and complete the quest that way.
Chumming:Kurt Angler has a secret fishing spot in Liaodong, not too far from Maegumrae. He's fishing for sharks, but needs special bait to catch them. A nearby bait merchant knows the secret recipe, which is found in the Resource screen, and requires meat from some common domestic animals.
Blood In The Water
For a taste of things to come, all players will enjoy three hours of Blood In The Water upon logging in to the Land, for some enhanced damage and survivability.
If anyone asks… tell ‘em you’re going fishing.
Death Lives… With Interest
Hopefully luck has been on your side, if you’ve been going after the Blazing Fire & Frozen Ice Flower Marbles. If you find yourself with an abundance of Ming Qian from the event dungeon, you may want to see Jyuck Sam in Hefei. He can turn 5 of them into them into a 9Dragons Silver Repay, and he has a 50% success rate at turning 10 into a [Hell] Vault of Death Pass Box, which contains 3 [Hell] Vault of Death Passes.
Papaya Play Marketplace
The Sweet Summer Deals Box lets you collect extra Sharkfest Certifications, between the complementary free daily one. The Seafood Take-Out Bag will either buff you out, or trigger anaphylaxis. The Swimsuit Exchange Coupon can be exchanged with Seo Hwarang for one of two new premium decos - the Vacancy and Lifeguard Swimsuits.
The stats for basic and premium costumes haven’t changed, but there are six new appearances to collect, if you want to have a deco for every mood.
