9Dragons Beginner Guide PapayaPlay (1) - Introduction

Hello 9 dragons fans and friends!
Shifu's of White and Black Clan
Masters and Pupils

This guide is dedicated to my journey into the land of 9dragons in Papaya server, a journey of kung fu adventures and the battle of power and love between the white and black clan.

Are you a new pupil in the land of kung fu of 9Dragons PapayaPlay?

This is how this story began ...
The War of Nine Dragons
This is a story of a land you know…and a land you do not know.
The Land where Martial arts chivalry was born.
A story of Nine Clans … Nine lost Heroes … and Nine Heroes yet to be found. This is the Ming Dynasty — The Era of Nine Dragons.
This Land holds many adventures, many wonders, and many secrets, some horrible and others beyond belief.Acts of heroism, romance, and fierce combat will unfold before you, like lotus petals, to nourish…
May the seeds of The Dragon within you thrive.

Good tidings to you, fellow traveler! My name is Wu Zhongsan, and I am a Storyteller by trade. I understand that you wish to master the ways of Kung Fu. Well, learning to fight is one thing, but in truth, only knowledge offers real power. What good is a weapon if the hand wielding it knows not where to strike? I tell you that those unaware of the history of The Land are doomed from the start. Fortunately for you, I see you carry a bottle of spirits and, as it happens, I am quite thirsty. If you share your bottle with me, I shall tell you the tale of The War of Nine Dragons, and both our problems will be resolved, eh?

Prior to the time men call The Era of Nine Dragons, The Land was merely a collection of disconnected provinces and townships, some peaceful, others unstable, as one might expect. From the more turbulent places there slowly emerged clans that practiced Martial Arts Tyranny, and hence the need to combat also arose. Thus was Martial Arts Chivalry born, and with it the establishment of schools that taught their disciples Kung Fu and weapons mastery that had once been reserved only for The Imperial Emperor
and his followers.

Then, with the establishment of ordered trade routes, and the opening of its gates to other lands, the very nature of The Land began to change. Emperors came and went, each satisfied to merely grind their taxes from the commoners, each taking little notice of
the clans and their simple quarrels.

However, this changed when the current Imperial Emperor took the throne, and decreed that no other force in The Land could be superior to his Imperial Army. At the time, there were eight major clans in The Land which might possibly boast similar strength.
And so, The Emperor and his Imperial Court summoned emissaries from each clan and demanded they offer him their allegiance. Four clans aligned themselves with The Emperor: Shaolin, Wu-Tang, The Union of Noble Families and The League of Beggars. These became known as the White Clans. And four clans refused: Heavenly Demon, Sacred Flower, The Disciples of Iron Fist and The Brotherhood of Thieves. These were branded as the Black Clans.

1. First thing to do is to think about which clan you want to join and get your beginners gift from Papaya.

Being as you are young and impetuous, I assume you are anxious to join a clan. Truly, it is as the wise Hermit said: Youth is wasted upon the young.

Well then, let me give you a brief introduction to each of them…

Shaolin Clan disciples are Buddhist monks that serve as advisors to The Imperial Court. One thousand years of demonstrating righteousness and mercy in all of their deeds has earned them the title of “The Noble Clan”. Integral to the philosophy of the Shaolin is the belief that one should not take life, nor take delight in death. Shaolin’s fighting style also reflects their peaceful view of the world. Their fighting techniques are not used to take life, but instead merely to disarm and disable. They do not utilize edged weapons, preferring instead their own “praying mantis” style Kung Fu.

Wu-Tang Clan is a discipleship of Tai Chi practitioners who serve as living instruments of the divine justice inherent in The Tao, or Water Course Way, symbolized by the sacred Yin and Yang. The clan is also referred to as the “Clan of Divine Sword” because their disciples hone their minds, hearts and bodies to become as one with their swords. Unlike Shaolin, which try to reform the evil through Buddha’s mercy and compassion, Wu-Tang believes that a balanced cosmos demands justice through retribution against evil. Therefore, the Black Clans and evildoers throughout The Land are especially wary of Wu-Tang disciples. Their hand-to-hand combat system is known as Boundless Fists, and their legendary sword techniques are unmatched throughout The Land.

The League of Beggars is an organization of actual beggars, sometimes referred to as “The Endless Clan,” because as a clansman once stated, “You could sit beggars one by one in line across The Land and never see the end!” It is by far the easiest clan to join. All you have to do is perform a few simple tasks, beg a bit, and swear an oath. Then you may be indoctrinated in the unusual style of their “Drunken Monkey” Kung Fu technique. Through accepting charity, helping those who face hardship, and giving purpose to those who find themselves lost or empty, the disciples of The League, although poor and often pitied, display all the noble characteristics of true heroes. They are the clan with the closest relationship to the common people.

The Brotherhood of Thieves is an organization of thieves, robbers, rogues and brigands, unified by a noble purpose:, that of fighting off the Imperial tax collectors and feeding the poor. Hence their common farewell, “Take what you will, share what you can!” At least, that’s how they began. Today, the clan itself is rather corrupt and violent. Coercion is used to ensure loyalty, and non-adherence to clan rules is dealt with swiftly and harshly. Their Kung Fu is based on The Six Harmonies combat system combined with Divine Spear techniques. It revolves around the correct focus of one’s Chi and one’s physical driving force, much like the thrust of a spear.

Sacred Flower Clan was founded by a legendary female warrior, whose true name shall not be known to men, when she was denied entrance to the male-dominated Shaolin Temple. It is said that, “From every action comes an opposite reaction,” and from that act of discrimination rose a clan of beautiful, deadly, female masters. Their motto: “If men rule the world, women must rule men!” These women know they are not equally matched with men as far as brute strength is concerned, and that’s why Sacred Flower’s Kung Fu techniques are based on seduction, speed and illusion, supplemented by all manner of poisons and venoms. Their weapons of choice are daggers, whips and razor wheels. Disciples of Sacred Flower train night and day to restore the holy balance of Yin and Yang.

Heavenly Demon Clan was founded by a cruel, ambitious warrior who, in defiance of The Imperial Emperor and his court, proclaimed himself The Emperor Heavenly Demon and waged a holy war against all governing factions. Heavenly Demon’s Kung Fu techniques were stolen and perverted from other disciplines, and combined with occult rituals. Sabers are preferred weapons over swords, and for hand-to-hand combat, their disciples master Bloody Hands technique, the most deadly combat system ever conceived.

2. Second, think about which role you want to choose.

9Dragons was design to have nine Clans and one Vagabon role. The six basic clans are: Wu Tang, Shaolin, The League of Beggars, Heavenly Demon, Sacred Flower, The Brotherhood of Thieves, while the 3 advanced clans are: Black Dragon Clan, Disciples of Iron Fist, and The Union of Noble Families. Advanced clans are not yet implemented.

The clans are divided into three categories: The White clans (Wu Tang, Shaolin, and The League of Beggars), who are loyal to the emperor, the Black clans (Heavenly Demon, Sacred Flower, and Brotherhood of Thieves) who are not loyal to the emperor, and the Advanced clans (Black Dragon Clan, Disciples of Iron Fist, and The Union of Noble Families).

Some of the main advantages of joining a clan are:
-The ability to learn advanced skills, such as more powerful attacks, heals , buffs, and debuffs.
-The ability to join a Hero Band and Hero League
-Stronger meditation skills that allow you to recover more quickly.
-The ability to earn karma points more rapidly than you would otherwise.

In 9 Dragons we have implemented four distinct classes or roles (initially were develop like this):

Warrior: Warriors are the masters of their clan's main weapon. They are the first to rush into combat, and all of their skills are centered around dealing direct damage to the opponent. They emphasize Constitution, Dexterity, and Strength, while Essence is harder for them to develop.

Healer: The healer of a clan uses their clan's secondary weapon, but their abilities focus more on buffing and healing other members. As the Hybrid has the same basic abilities as they do, the Healer is able to heal external and internal injuries, while the Hybrid cannot. They emphasize Essence and Wisdom, while Constitution is harder for them to develop.

Nuker: The nuker is a specialist in the Chi Kung arts handed down in their clan. They focus on dealing long-range damage to their target, and the majority of their skills can do quite a bit of damage. They emphasize Essence and Wisdom, while Strength is hard for them to develop. They are ill-suited to melee combat.

Hybrid: The Hybrid is an army unto themselves; they learn a bit of every art passed down in their clan, from secondary clan weapon usage to Chi Kung attacks and buffing and healing. They emphasize Constitution and Essence, while Wisdom is harder for them to develop.

Each clan has for each role different names :

Wu Tang: Blue Dragon (Sword)

5. Next, learn about PvP system, wars and storm vs storm.

Player versus Player (PvP) is the term given to all gameplay where players fight each other. Wanted and Jail System are implemented in the game.

Wanted

This system allows you to set an opponent who has killed you in PvP as “Wanted”. A fee must be paid in order to activate this system, and those who became “Wanted” will have disadvantages for a certain period of time.

The wanted system will apply towards Nanchang, Hangzhou, Liaodong, North Sea, Tibet, East-West Shrine, Mansion of Golden Coins and Kunlun.

Self Defense

This system protects characters who has been defeated by an opponent. The default status of all characters in any PvP areas is set as “Self Defense.” However, inflicting damage to other(s) will turn Self Defense status off for 3 min regardless of Class achievements.

During the Self Defense off status, the character name will appear in Red and no disadvantage will apply if other characters (in Self Defense status) attacks them. Self Defense status will return automatically after 3 min.

Self Defense system will not apply towards Storm vs Storm areas in Nanchang & Hangzhou or Charge War Areas in Liaodong and Loulan.

Storm vs. Storm refers to a power struggle between the Hero Bands for their possession of neutral territories, called Fortresses. These conflicts occur because the Hero Band occupying certain Fortresses can charge trade taxes on all items traded in that area

Black vs white war. The war between Black vs. White Clan forces are often waged in Bloody Plain, and these battles are called the Black vs. White War.

6. In the end choose your own path as a martial art hero.

Let's start our journey as a pupil of a martial art.

As a new martial art recruit you will enter first Bamboo map. Take a look around the screen windows and start the first series of quests.  In 9Dragons we have the following quests :

-Roads to Enlightenment
-Roads to the Dragon
-Roads to Karma
-Roads to Fate
-Heroic

Roads to the Dragon (RTD) is the most important line of quests because will advance your character to second role of the clan. So, first thing to do is to try to level up as much as you can to get the first RTD in game to progress.

The quest line Roads to Enlightenment will take you to the Bamboo NPC kung fu master to learn the first vagabond skills. It is very important to learn the skills because they will give you more damage to kill the monsters.

To advance in game you need to level up.

Levels in 9Dragons :

9Dragons has a unique level system, where it is divided into 20 tiers, and each tier has 12 Chengs (sublevels). Whenever you reach a new level, you will receive 4 chi points and 1 mastery point (at tier it's 6 chi points and 3 masteries), and will have your HP and VE fully restored. These levels also have a numerical value.

Chi Breathing

When someone reaches 100% of Cheng 12 of a level, they must undergo Chi Breathing to realign their chi.

When one is undergoing chi breathing, they will be killed instantly by any attack, so it is wise to do this only in a safe area, such as a town.

Chi Breathing is a simple exercise. A diagram will appear with white, black, and blue circles. These will be traced by a glowing orb. When the orb is over a white circle, you left-click, when the orb is over a black circle, you right-click, and when it is over a blue circle, you click with both buttons simultaneously.

When Chi Breathing is completed, you will be Cheng 1 of the level, and you will be given 3 Mastery points and 6 Chi Points to distribute.

[Level List]
  • None (0) (None)
  • Losing Self (1-12) (LS)
  • Gathering Chi (13-24) (GC)
  • Opening Chi (25-36) (OC)
  • Revolving Chakra (37-48) (RC)
  • Raising Light (49-60) (RL)
  • Five Dragons (61-72) (FD)
  • Sun and Moon (73-84) (SM)
  • Golden Blossoms (85-96) (GB)
  • Elemental Crown (97-108) (EC)
  • Floral Crown (109-120) (FC)
  • Crimson Snake (121-132) (CS)
  • Golden Lotus (133-144) (GL)
  • Humble Master (145-156) (HM)
  • Little Master (157-168) (LM)
  • Hermit (169-180) (H)
  • Projected Soul (181-192) (PS)
  • Dissolved Body (193-204) (DB)
  • Immortal (205-216) (I)
  • Heaven's Gate (217-228) (HG)
  • Heavenly Immortal (229-240) (HI)

Q :

How I level ?

A :

-killing monsters and gaining experience ;

-making quests and gaining experience. Best quest experience is given by RTD quest so take all quests of RTD when you are low level.

Experience is a point system that controls when a player may gain a level.

The experience shown in game is shown as a percentage. Having your experience at 100% will not gain you a level due to rounding errors.

Experience can be gained in two ways: by killing mobs (the process of which is called grinding), and by completing quests (not all quests will reward you with experience though). With very few exceptions, quests will generally give you 0,1%- 1% -5% to 10% experience.

Experience is lost when you die, unless you use a Huatuo's Panacea, but the amount lost depends on where they want to revive.

After you level up and learn the skills of a vagabond continue with the quest line. Make all quests in Bamboo map and level up till you reach LS6.  You will be able to accept a RTE quest named : "Zhang Zhong, Mountain Uprooter". Head to Bandit's Den and kill Mountain Uprooter to complete the quest and turn quest back in to "Tan" This quest is important because as rewards you will get 3 statues and 1 can be exchange for a weapon. This weapon is part of an upgrading chain of weapons. The rest of the statues to upgrade this weapon will be received from RTD quests.
